Irish Hills Concerned Citizens (IHCC) was incorporated as a non-profit in January 2026. IHCC’s mission is to protect Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve, its birds and wildlife, and the rural character of the surrounding region.

IHCC is a nonprofit made up of local residents committed to protecting Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve, its wildlife, and the rural character of the Irish Hills from the threat of an adjacent gravel mine.

why we’re here: about the park

Opened in 2016 on farm land that was once part of the Underground Railroad, Watkins Lake State Park & County Preserve protects some of Michigan’s most significant wetlands and serves as an MDNR-designated Waterfowl Refuge. Five miles of trails and sweeping scenic views make it a beloved outdoor destination for all Michiganders.
