October Meeting Recap

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for our community meeting about the proposed Norvell gravel mine. We appreciated the thoughtful questions, engaged discussion, and continued commitment to protecting our community.

With AAOM/Levy expected to resubmit their application, IHCC is preparing for the next phase of this process. We discussed potential next steps and how our community can stay informed, organized, and ready to respond as the application moves forward. We will continue to share updates as we learn more.

Upcoming Norvell Township Board Meeting

TOMORROW: Monday, October 19 at 6:00 p.m.
Norvell Township Hall
300 Mill Rd., Brooklyn, MI 49230

Although the proposed mine is not on the meeting agenda, IHCC will make brief public comments to share updates on the situation. Community members are encouraged to attend and speak during public comment to voice their concerns about the proposed mine and its potential impacts on our community. Showing up and making our voices heard helps demonstrate the ongoing level of community engagement and concern surrounding this proposal.

Planning Commission Update

There will be no Planning Commission meeting this month due to commissioner absences. Meetings are expected to resume next month. We will share updates as they become available.

Other Volunteer Opportunities This Month

There are several ways to get involved and help IHCC prepare for the next phase of this effort.

1. Connect with birders at Watkins Lake

Visit Watkins Lake State Park and County Preserve at dawn or dusk to connect with birders observing fall migration. IHCC has informational cards you can hand out to visitors, directing them to our website to complete the Be Counted form. Contact Sybil at protectpark@IHCCinfo.org or via our Facebook group for cards and more information.

2. Help strengthen IHCC’s volunteer team and social media presence

IHCC is looking for a volunteer coordinator to help keep our volunteers engaged and active, as well as social media volunteers to help keep our online presence relevant and reach more members of the community. If you or someone you know would enjoy helping, please contact Sybil at protectpark@IHCCinfo.org or via our Facebook group.

Thank you for your ongoing support, participation, and dedication to protecting the Irish Hills and the surrounding area. Community involvement matters, and we are grateful to have you alongside us as we prepare for the next steps.
